Understanding QR Codes
Every tagd-ai tag has a unique QR code that links directly to your content. This guide explains how they work and how to use them effectively.
How tagd-ai QR Codes Work
Unique Short IDs
Each tag gets a unique 6-character identifier (like a7Bx9k). This short ID:
- Is permanently assigned to your tag
- Never changes, even if you edit content
- Creates short, easy-to-type URLs:
tagd-ai.com/a7Bx9k
Dynamic Content
Unlike static QR codes, tagd-ai codes are dynamic:
- Update anytime - Change content without reprinting codes
- Track scans - See analytics on who's scanning
- Control access - Adjust permissions at any time

QR Code Best Practices
Size Guidelines
| Use Case | Minimum Size | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Close-up scanning (< 30cm) | 2cm × 2cm | 3cm × 3cm |
| Arm's length (30-60cm) | 3cm × 3cm | 4cm × 4cm |
| Signage (1-2m) | 6cm × 6cm | 10cm × 10cm |
| Large displays (> 2m) | 15cm × 15cm | 20cm × 20cm |
Rule of thumb: The QR code should be at least 1/10th of the scanning distance.
Contrast and Colors
For reliable scanning:
- Use high contrast (dark code on light background)
- Avoid red or pink for the code itself
- Keep a white "quiet zone" around the code
- Don't place over busy backgrounds or patterns
Printing Tips
- Vector formats (SVG) are best for printing at any size
- PNG at 300 DPI works well for most print jobs
- Test print before ordering large quantities
- Consider weatherproofing for outdoor use
Error Correction
tagd-ai QR codes use high error correction, meaning they can still scan even if:
- Partially obscured (up to 30% damage)
- Slightly dirty or worn
- Printed at lower quality
However, for best results, always print clean, high-quality codes.

Troubleshooting
Code Won't Scan
- Check size - Make sure it's large enough for the distance
- Check contrast - Ensure dark code on light background
- Check damage - Look for tears, smudges, or wear
- Check lighting - Very dark or very bright conditions can affect scanning
- Clean the lens - Smudged camera lenses cause issues
Wrong Content Appears
- Verify you're scanning the correct QR code
- Check if the tag was recently edited
- Clear your browser cache and try again
Slow to Load
- Check your internet connection
- Try scanning with the tagd-ai app for faster loading
- Large images in tags may take longer to load
Security Considerations
What's in the QR Code
tagd-ai QR codes only contain a URL - never sensitive data. The URL points to tagd-ai's servers, where permissions are checked before displaying content.
Protecting Your Tags
Even though the QR code is public, you can:
- Password-protect specific content blocks (protected fields)
- Limit access to specific domains
- Enable access logging to track who views
- Require location to access (location-based access)
