Offline Mode

tagd-ai provides limited offline functionality so you can access important content without internet.

What Works Offline

Viewing Cached Tags

Tags you've recently viewed are cached:

  • Text content
  • Images (if loaded before)
  • Basic formatting

Scanning QR Codes

The scanner works offline:

  • Camera functionality
  • Code reading
  • Opens cached tags
  • Queues uncached tags

Saved Changes

Edits made offline:

  • Stored locally
  • Synced when online
  • Conflict resolution if needed

What Doesn't Work Offline

New Content

  • Tags not previously viewed
  • Updated content not yet synced
  • New uploads or files

Server Features

  • Creating new tags
  • Sharing operations
  • Analytics viewing
  • Account settings

Real-Time Features

  • Webhooks
  • Live collaboration
  • Push notifications

Caching Behavior

Automatic Caching

tagd-ai automatically caches:

  • Recently viewed tags (last 50)
  • Your owned tags (summary)
  • Starred tags
  • Profile and settings

Cache Size

  • Approximately 50-100 MB
  • Varies by content
  • Managed automatically

Cache Duration

  • Cached until space needed
  • Or manually cleared
  • Refreshes when online

Enabling Offline

Install PWA

For best offline support:

  1. Install tagd-ai as PWA
  2. Open the app at least once while online
  3. Important content is cached

Pre-Cache Important Tags

  1. Open tags you'll need offline
  2. Let all content load
  3. Images and files cached

Starred Tags Priority

Starred tags are prioritized:

  1. Star important tags
  2. They're cached first
  3. Available offline

Working Offline

Visual Indicators

When offline:

  • "Offline" banner appears
  • Cached content marked
  • Unavailable content grayed

Making Edits

  1. Edit cached tags normally
  2. See "Saved locally" indicator
  3. Changes sync when online
  4. Conflict warning if server changed

Viewing Tags

  1. Open from dashboard
  2. Cached version displays
  3. Note: May not be latest

Coming Back Online

Automatic Sync

When connection returns:

  1. Local changes upload
  2. New content downloads
  3. Conflicts resolved (if any)
  4. Full functionality restored

Conflict Resolution

If both local and server changed:

  1. Notification appears
  2. Review both versions
  3. Choose which to keep
  4. Or merge manually

Sync Status

Check sync status:

  1. Look for sync indicator
  2. Green = all synced
  3. Yellow = syncing
  4. Red = sync failed

Troubleshooting

Content Not Available Offline

  1. View the content while online first
  2. Ensure it fully loaded
  3. Check cache isn't full
  4. Try installing PWA

Changes Not Syncing

  1. Check internet connection
  2. Look for sync errors
  3. Try manual sync (pull to refresh)
  4. Check for conflicts

Cache Not Working

  1. Ensure PWA installed
  2. Check browser storage settings
  3. Ensure sufficient storage
  4. Try clearing and recaching

Browser Storage

Storage Limits

Browsers limit PWA storage:

  • Chrome: ~60% of available space
  • Safari: Limited to ~50MB
  • May be cleared under pressure

Managing Storage

  1. iOS may clear inactive app data
  2. Star important tags for priority
  3. Regularly open important content
