Deleting Your Account
If you need to close your tagd-ai account, this guide explains the process and what to expect.
Before You Delete
Consider Alternatives
Before permanently deleting:
- Downgrade - Switch to free plan instead
- Pause - Leave account inactive (no deletion)
- Export - Download your data first
- Transfer - Move tags to another account
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account:

What Happens to QR Codes
After deletion:
- All QR codes stop working
- Scans show "Tag not found"
- Cannot be recovered
- Short IDs may be reassigned eventually
Export Your Data First
Download Everything
Before deleting:
- Go to Account → Privacy
- Click Download My Data
- Select all data types
- Generate export
- Download the ZIP file
- Verify contents
Export Includes
- Profile information
- All tags and content
- Uploaded files
- Analytics history
- Activity logs
QR Codes
Export your QR codes separately:
- Go to Dashboard
- Select all tags
- Bulk Actions → Download QR Codes
- Save for reference (codes won't work after deletion)
Deletion Process
Step 1: Access Account Settings
- Sign in to your account
- Go to Account → Settings
- Scroll to bottom
- Click Delete Account
Step 2: Confirm Your Identity
- Enter your password
- If 2FA enabled, enter code
- Click Continue
Step 3: Review Consequences
Read the summary of what will be deleted:
- Number of tags
- Storage used
- Active subscription status
Step 4: Final Confirmation
- Type "DELETE" to confirm
- Provide optional feedback
- Click Permanently Delete Account
Step 5: Confirmation
- You're signed out immediately
- Confirmation email sent
- 30-day grace period begins
Grace Period
30-Day Recovery Window
After initiating deletion:
- Account marked for deletion
- Data hidden but not yet deleted
- Can recover by signing in
- After 30 days, permanently deleted
Cancel Deletion
To stop the deletion:
- Sign in with your credentials
- Confirm "Keep my account"
- Account restored immediately
- All data intact
After 30 Days
- Account is permanently deleted
- Cannot be recovered
- Email can be used for new account
- All data purged from systems
Subscription Handling
Active Subscription
If you have a paid subscription:
- Subscription is canceled immediately
- No refund for remaining period
- Pro features disabled
- Continue with free features during grace period
Pending Charges
- Outstanding charges still billed
- Refunds per our terms of service
- Contact support for billing issues
Special Cases
Organization Account
If you're an organization owner:
- Transfer ownership first, or
- Delete organization (deletes all member access)
- Then delete personal account
Emergency Contacts
If you're someone's emergency contact:
- You're removed from their list
- They're notified
- No access to their data
Shared Tags
Tags shared with you:
- You lose access
- Original owner keeps their tags
- They're notified you left
Data Retention
Immediately Deleted
- Profile information
- Authentication data
- API keys and sessions
Retained 30 Days
- Tags and content
- Files and media
- Analytics data
- Activity logs
Retained for Legal
Some data may be retained longer if:
- Required by law
- Active legal matter
- Fraud investigation
- Billing dispute
Troubleshooting
Can't Access Account to Delete
If you can't sign in:
- Try password reset
- Use backup codes for 2FA
- Contact support with account email
- Provide identity verification
Deletion Not Processing
If account still accessible after deletion:
- Check for confirmation email
- Ensure deletion was completed
- Wait 24 hours for processing
- Contact support if persistent
Changed My Mind
Within 30 days:
- Simply sign in
- Confirm account recovery
- Everything restored
After 30 days:
- Cannot be recovered
- Create new account if needed
